FAQ

What do I do at arrival?
Come in to the building and bring your child to their classroom. Initial the class roster.  Give a quick goodbye and allow the teacher to take over. Part of school readiness is learning how to separate. Office personnel can call you with a brief update if your child resists separation.

What happens at dismissal?
Students are picked up at their cubbies. Please assist your child in getting the mail and all belongings to share at home, and initial the class roster for pick-up.

Does my child need to be potty-trained to attend?
Yes.  All children in the 3’s and 4’s classes must be able to use the toilet independently. We do use the bathrooms at scheduled times to alleviate accidents, and we will work with them on proper handwashing and good hygiene techniques after they use the bathroom. Children in the 2’s program are not expected to be potty-training. This will be something that is worked on with encouragement throughout the 2’s year.

What should my child wear to school?
Everyone must wear sneakers or rubber-soled shoes. Please do not send your child to school wearing flip-flops, Crocs or dressy sandals. Children should be dressed to play and be self-sufficient with snaps, zippers etc.

What should I pack for lunch?

Children should bring healthy choices for lunch. The school provides milk and water, no outside drinks will be allowed. Lunches are refrigerated each day, so there is no need to include ice packs. Please do not send lunch items that require heating. Children are not allowed to share their lunch with anyone in the class as some children may have food allergies.

Are there volunteer opportunities?
We would love parents to come in and share their special talents, read a story or help out as needed. Please contact your child’s teacher directly so we can best use your time and talents. Additionally, we have a very active parent board which can always use a helping hand.

How do I sign up for Stay and Play?
See the Stay and Play page on our website for the link to sign up.

What is the school safety plan?
The school is secured throughout the day. If you need to come into the school, please press the buzzer at the top of the main staircase and you will be admitted after you are identified. Please do not prop open any of our exit doors as this compromises the safety of our children.

What is the best way to contact the school during the day?
The school office is open from 8:45a.m. until 3:30p.m. daily. The phone number is 410-592-9122. We can also be reached via email at office@chestnutgrovechild.org. If you get our voicemail during the day, please know we are working with your children and we will return your call as soon as possible.
